I’m Bob Hayes.  Thank you for visiting my web site.

My wife, Pam and I live in the town of Southport, North Carolina where the Cape Fear River meets the Atlantic Ocean.  My workshop is in a separate building behind our house.

I was introduced to the pipe and tobacco industry about ten years ago while helping at the Cornell & Diehl table at tobacco shows.  Having been a wood worker for most of my adult life, I was fascinated with the beautiful pipes that were on display by pipe makers from around the world.

My father in law, Craig Tarler of Cornell & Diehl, presented me with a few blocks of briar, some stems and the Pimo book on Pipe Crafting.  Needless to say I butchered the first few blocks but gradually they began to improve; and in 2002 I began putting a few pipes out on the Cornell & Diehl table and was thrilled that they actually sold.  Admittedly, the improvement came as a result of a great deal of encouragement and advice from many pipe makers and others in the industry.

My pipes are conservative and from the beginning I have leaned toward the attractive classical shapes with the occasional slight modification, and focused on the engineering of the pipe.   Many of my customers say that my pipes smoke wonderfully from the first bowl.   To add additional interest I sometimes use exotic woods, bone, antler or tusk as stem extensions.  My philosophy is to create pipes that smoke well, are attractive and are available at a reasonable price.

If you would like further information about any of the pipes featured on this site please send an e-mail or, if you don’t have e-mail, please feel free to give me a call.
